I’m available to work on websites and blogs doing coding/design at very reasonable rates.

Things I can do:

  • Set up a blog for you (including installation/hosting/templates)
  • Design a personal website
  • …a business website (including online stores)
  • …a church website

For recent examples of my work see nt.es.org.au

Flashcards wishlist

October 29th, 2008

I have a Hebrew exam on Friday, but I’m taking a quick break from revision - there is only so much time you can spend writing right to left in one night!!

Instead I’m dreaming of that time which will come…quickly I hope…summer holidays!

For those who have been using the language tools (greek/hebrew flashcards) I plan to make a few modifications over the summer. The greek needs some work and I really need to get the hebrew one into a more useful state. In the mean time I’d love to hear your feedback.

What would you like to see the widgets do? what doesn’t suit you? what would be better/easier and so on. No guarantees but I’ll do what I can…

Facebook and Faith

October 9th, 2008

I enjoy keeping an eye on Mark Sayers’ blog - I like that he’s working hard to ask why we do what we do.

His podcast today has some interesting questions for the Christian who uses Facebook.

Can you use facebook without creating a hyperreal version of yourself? To what extent can you let your facebook page define your identity? Does facebook create a new age of radical accountability or a new arena for showing off?

check it, especially if you talk to youths who use the interweb. or if you are one yourself.

Pasta goodness

October 8th, 2008

I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and one of the weekly staples for us is pasta. I go for variety when I cook…which sometimes works, sometimes not. Jodie is polite about it!

I’m thinking home-made fettuccine with chicken, avo, baby spinach in a light cream sauce tonight.

What is your fave pasta topping/combo?? give me some ideas…

p.s. never use IKEA pasta. I think they use the left-over packaging to make it.

Also, check Nick’s blog for some great food stuffs!

Regina Spektor referencing RHCP?

October 5th, 2008

Now that I have my CD’s categorised by alphabetical order (another item on the list done!) I noticed an uncanny similarity in album art between these two neighbouring cds…Regina Spektor’s “Begin to hope” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Mother’s milk”.

Ok, so it’s probably a coincidence given how dissimilar they are musically and influence-wise. But just thought I’d put it out there!

Like, whatever!

September 29th, 2008

Does it bug you when people use the word ‘like’ in ways other than for comparisons?? teenagers perhaps? ye stereotypical amerian blondes?

A linguist from U of Canterbury via ‘American Speech‘ has gone to the trouble of analysing the usage of like and has found that it is not meaningless filler in sentences and actually follows some rules. The most common usages are:

1. To separate phrases (similar to using “i mean”): “He was at work all the time, like, I can’t imagine what he’d be doing!”

2. To keep conversation flowing (often an alternative to using “you know”)

3. As an equivalent to says: “He was like, lets go to the roller-disco”

4. As an equivalent to about: “It was like 15 stories high”
