Polyphasic sleep – day 3

So here is the sleep schedule i’ve been working with:

20 min naps at 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 11pm

“Core sleep” at 3-4:30.

The 6 to 11pm stretch has been the hardest to stay awake. Have been resorting to pacing around the house aimlessly – any sort of sitting activity and my eyelids turn to lead…

It might sound strange but the most frustrating thing is that both nights i’ve been doing this i’ve overslept for my core sleep. Have laid down at 3 then missed my alarm somehow  then woken up again at 7. Jodie said that she woke with the alarm, saw me turn it off then roll back over but i have no recollection of it at all! I’m not sure how i’m going to deal with this as I seem to be turning the alarm off without waking properly.

Am only feeling moderately tired at the moment despite getting just under 11hrs in the last 48…

  1. how long is it supposed to take until you don’t feel tired anymore??

  2. Well from what i’ve read, people have varying experiences. Most people doing the uberman one say around a week and for what i’m doing a few days.

I’ll let you know if i get that far! Not feeling too bad right now :-)

  3. This is hilarious! I eagerly await your next day of “sleep”. I’ll be pleased for you if it works (although it won’t be as entertaining!).

  4. lol. “she woke with the alarm, saw me turn it off then roll back over”. Your body has completely vetoed your decision to do this wacky sleep thing and is now taking control of your actions while you sleep….

    freddies back….

  6. If it works and it’s fits with your routine in the long term, then you gain a great lot of awake hours.

In this life one doesn’t have time to do everything one wants, but gaining an extra hour or two a day is a great win if it doesn’t come at the cost of anything else. Heck, if it ends up working for you I might give it a go myself.

Probably this’ll be one of those things that works for some people and not for others.

  7. I’m hoping it will work for me, but i’m pretty sure the napping is not going to be a practical part of my routine once college gets back into full swing. we’ll see how it goes…if i make it that far!

really feeling like tapping out right now :-) 2 hours till 3am…

  8. I currently have the luxury of flexible working hours and my work 1km from my home. Unfortunately my work will move early this year. So maybe now is the best time to try for naps during the day, while I still have the option of going home and coming back multiple times.

Then of course come the questions of when (and what and how much) you eat…

  9. Be keen to hear how it goes if you do try it. I decided to pull the plug at day 4 (see next post…) If I could imagine anyone doing this long term though, it would be you Eric!!

I at at more or less the usual times but had buns and sugary things on hand to munch on at any time. Def. ate more than usual.
