Do any of you do 5 year plans etc? are you violently opposed or could you care less?

I’m thinking about making a list of what I would like to:

a) have done

b) be doing

c) become

In 5 years and 10 years.

What do you think? have any of you done this kind of thing? good or bad idea? right/wrong questions?

  1. Oh Reuben! You’ve been away from Adelaide too long! You need to come back and attend CV. Then you MUST create a 5 year plan.

I have to say I’ve always been a bit of a planner, and although I’ve previously been a CV-cynic, I’m now a bit of a convert to the process. But I like to vary my plans to include options. So I tend to have 5 year plan Plan 1; 5-6 year Plan 2a and Plan 2b; 10 year plan 3ai, 3aii, 3bi, 3bii etc. Once you start you can go on forever!

I think there’s a balance to be had between wise / careful /responsible planning & allowing space for God to do His thing.

  2. Ah, yeah I forgot about CV 5 year plans. I have done one then… (that’s club 5/challenge for others)

I think those are a little different since the purpose on a whole is working out a plan which minimises obstacles and delays to being in some sort of ‘ministry’.

Maybe my idea is more about specifying a bunch of things to work towards. I like your options approach…plan 2a etc! i’m not surprised :-)

  3. In short,
    YES
    DO IT :)

I used to be concerned about boxing myself or shutting down options, but the shape a plan can provide is invaluable.

  4. 2 votes for, none against…i’d better do it!

I think that’s right though Arthur. I do feel like it could be restrictive but i am attracted to the focussing power it could theoretically bring.

  5. Like Arthur, I used to have a 5 year professional boxing plan. You know, to make it to the top.

  6. I’d pay good money to see you two go 10 rounds :-)
