Objection, your honour #2

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Blogging this for Adelaide for Jodie’s brother’s wedding tomorrow! enjoying being back in the homeland :-)

After my first “objection your honour” this one is a little more trivial, so feel free to leave a trivial answer!! If you missed the first one, click above and join the discussion if you wish.

So this week:

the scenario is…eating a packet of chips at a bus stop when somone sits down next to you. They look pleasant enough and not too threatening. They also cast a glance or two in the direction of your pack of chips as though thinking ‘If only i had been as forwad thinking as this well fed traveller’. You are about to offer them a chip.

The objection is… well where do i start? flagrantly ignoring social customs, the potential spread of swine flu, it might be mistaken for flirting (or depending on your situation, my not be recieved as effective flirting :-) …you cant just go sharing chips with strangers at the bus stop!

What do you say, your honours? sustained or overruled?

140 character stories (stories for twits?)

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I’m not into twitter, but maybe one day…

I like this though: a twitter inspired competition to write a story using exactly 140 characters

I’d read more stories if they were this long!! I didn’t enter, but had a go at writing one:

How had it come to this? She caught his eye on the bus but he wouldn’t take a second look. Now she had his gaze. Two blue eyes in her hands.

Try it out! …Leave yours in the comments if you’d like!

I’m just hoping that dominos doesn’t get any big ideas to ‘improve’ it …say by adding cheese between the corrugations. mmm…edible pizza box.

Exams done, essay here we come

Glad to have exam over and done with! for now…

Clicking through links on between two worlds blog landed me at this (very helpful i thought) guide to writing essays which my be useful to you if you’re about to start one too.

I think the professors pet peeves can be safely ignored for the most part though. The professor needs to lighten up a bit and get with the times! movements do impact people these days!! language changes!

Lemon Mug Cake

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Building on the phenomenal success of the chocolate mug cake…I’ve created the Lemon mug cake for your quick snacking pleasure!

You definitely need a big mug for this one as its consistency when cooking is a little more liquid than the chocolate version and will run over the edge.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp SR Flour
  • 3 tbsp Caster sugar
  • 3 tbsp Softened butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Lemon rind

Method:

  • Lightly cream the sugar and butter in the mug with a fork
  • Add the egg, lemon juice and rind and mix until combined
  • Add baking powder then flour mix again until combined
  • Cook in microwave on high for 2.5-3 minutes
  • Remove from the microwave taking care as the mug will be VERY hot
  • Squeeze a bit of lemon juice over the top…the cake will soak it up for extra yumminess.

I enjoyed mine with some ice-cream. Picture next time I make it.

Objection, your honour!

OK, here is something experimental…might work…might not. hopefully it will be fun. In part that’s up to you!

What i’m proposing is a regular friday interactive post called ‘objection, your honour’.

i’ll pose a scenario and then an objection. And you can decide – is the objection sustained or overruled? if you want you can add to the objection or argue against it.

So here we go: first one…

the scenario is fantasy. everyone does it. kids do it. dungeons and dragons players do it. advertisers want us to do it…especially the ones who want us to believe that bathing in a pool of molten chocolate is going to be enjoyable.

the objection? well your honours… isn’t fantasy wrong? surely playing make-believe too much distorts our expectations of real life. Take an extreme example: porn gives men unrealistic expectations of women. Or surely you’d agree romantic novels do the same to women, right?

What do you think…
