Jodie and I got back yesterday from a week of mission with PAC school. Not the PAC I went to for highschool, but Penrith Anglican College. A fairly young church (5years old?) ‘Christ Church at the college’ meets on the campus and we were particuarly linked with them.
We both had an enjoyable time! we were encouraged greatly by the people in the church and the christian kids fired up for Jesus and hoping for their friends to come to know him too.
Highlights:
1. Our billets. Lovely people, and Terry is into fishing – the photos of the snappers he caught recently are amazing! Both he, Ruth and their girl Claire are such great christian people and we felt warmly welcomed into their home
2. Paddock bashing. I’ve never been a rev-head, but this was so much fun. Hooning around a muddy paddock pulling handbrake turns while avoiding the people watching on the hill near the final corner. lesson learned: keep your eyes on the car when Manfred is driving. narrowly avoided death
3. Divinity classes. Brilliant oppotunity to share testimonies and field questions that the kids had. I was in a y7 class and was surprised but how many questions they wanted to ask on topics like heaven/hell, angels demons, Does god hate the world, is it the best world he could have created and so on. Thanks to Duke for keeping the answers understandable by y7′s i struggled to pitch them right i think!
4. Chapel services. i was initially uncertain about teaching 500 students aged kindy-y12 in a gym for 40 mins. It worked well though and was a lot of fun. we worked with the triumphal entry(lk 19). to work across the ages we kept it varied: humilitated y12′s in donkey races, got team chants going and got nostalgic by showing a clip from the lion king. I spoke about the need to recognise Jesus as he truly is – God’s king. I questioned whether this truth may presently be ‘hidden this from their eyes’ (Lk 19:42) urging them to ask God to change this for them. 4 other groups of 3 from our team were running chapels to ~200 kids at the same time and it seemed to go well for them too.
