Just for something different…

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

After finally facing up to the reality that i really had to do something to my hair (things we’re getting a bit mad professor!) I decided to add one more style to the long list of hair-cuts I’ve had.

Before:

…and after:

Never shaved it before, and it didn’t come out looking as bad as I thought it might… now I’ll just have to put up with Jodie rubbing it when we’re watching TV :-)

Just for interest, what is one haircut would you never get? or never want to get again??

New Merch – λύω verb table mug!

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

UPDATE: Got it in the post this morning and it looks great!! and funny… in a nerdy kinda way…I’ll have it with me round college!

——————

Just for fun…a mug with the table of the regular verb. Come on, who wouldn’t want to be reminded of how to conjugate the aorist passive indicative while sipping a hot beverage?! Also, steins are available for those who learn Greek best with beer (which the Greeks invented of course…)

Check them out at http://www.cafepress.com/reubenland

Greek F/C Minor Fix

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Hi, some people pointed out two bugs in the parsing screen.

1) Participles weren’t giving the right options for selecting (couldn’t choose number)

2) No words when ALL tense/voice/mood options are selected.

I’ve fixed the code so that 1) is resolved, to solve 2), just make sure that ‘perfect’ is not selected.

Stay tuned for a more substantial update after the mid-year exam!

I’ve updated the Greek Mobile flash cards program. It has 2 spelling errors corrected.

[note: download now works - sorry about that folks!]

The transfiguration??

Monday, May 19th, 2008

I’m preaching on the transfiguration this Sunday, from the account in Matt 17:1-13.

I have many questions (it’s a bizarre incident, isn’t it!?!!) …but have a few I’d like to put out there into web-land:

1. What do you think the significance of Elijah being there is? what’s the deal?

2. What do you think Peter made of the incident at the time, or shortly after?

3. What’s with the tents?

Fire away, com padres. I’d love to hear your ideas!

DJing tape-style

Monday, May 19th, 2008

This is a post from an old blog I kept. Made me laugh when I saw it so I thought I’d post it here to keep the memory alive…

—–

Some Russian dude called DJ Artyom is responsible for these little babies: Home-made dj-ified tape decks!

note: pitch control, EQ and a Jog Shuttle! (even if it is just a disk attached to one of the spool axles…)

DIY cassette DJ

I knew there was a reason i kept that 1980’s walkman!

I love this program!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I came across this recently: “PDF X-Change Viewer”

It lets you write/draw/leave notes on pdf documents. Absolute gold if you want to make notes on journal articles as you read them, but don’t particularly want to print them out (because you’re a rampant greenie, or lazy or whatever…)

I think it is only for windows users.

No Hebrew flash-cards for phones

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

After a fair bit of googling around, it seems that flash just doesn’t support right-to-left languages properly and especially not with vowel pointing. So unfortunately that means I can’t release a hebrew version of the mobile phone flash cards program.

If anyone knows how to do this kind of thing or finds a solution somewhere please let me know – I think this would be a useful tool if it could be made to work!

Hebrew Yahoo! Widget

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I’ve re-uploaded the widget and it should actually work now! Sorry to those who have tried with the previous file. It was broken…

Do let me know of any bugs/spelling mistakes etc and I’ll keep it updated.

Next release will most likely have verb parsing, but for now you can only show flash-cards and play memory.
